Say Hello at the Australian Games Expo/Cancon 2011

Australian Games ExpoThe Australian Games Expo/CanCon is the premier event in Australia for the demonstration and play of family board and card games, and it’s on this weekend (22nd-24th January)!

The Expo is a family oriented and free event open to the public—and you can sample the hundreds of games on offer. Come and play old favourites, try the latest award winning games, check out the Championship tournaments or just browse through the Expo—there’s something for people of all ages. New games, old favourites, game designers and retailers, home of the Australian championships for major boardgames, special guests and much much more.

And of course, your favourite online toys retailer, Toys Paradise, will be there, so come over and say hello and take advantage of some our ONE-OFF SPECIALS!

The main areas of the Expo are:

Open Gaming An area where families, teachers and school groups, visitors and game enthusiasts can play and try hundreds of games.

Main Stage Check out what’s new and what’s happening on the main stage—there are live events throughout the Expo.

Exhibitors Toys Paradise! And other exhibitors, retailers and designers… ;)

Australian Championship Tournaments Watch or play the battles to become an Australian Champion with a chance to represent Australia at the World Championships.

Tournaments will be running for the following games (registration required): Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Dominion and Stone Age.

Prodigious game designer, Martin Wallace (Age of Steam, Brass), will be conducting a Games Design and Publishing Seminar on Sunday from 1.30-2.30 pm, in the Pelican Room. All are welcome to attend at $5 per head at the door.

Cancon is organised by the Canberra Games Society and conducted in conjunction with the Expo. First held in 1978, Cancon is Australia’s premier gaming convention focussed on miniatures, roleplaying and board-based games.

The Australian Games Expo is being held this weekend in Coorong Pavilion at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC)—Flemington Road, Mitchell, ACT. Public entry 9.30am-5.00pm daily across the three days of the Expo. Car parking is free and available on-site.
