Lego Celebrates 80th Birthday With Whimsical Animated Short [VIDEO]
To recognize 80 years of toy creation, Lego has released this 17-minute story of the company’s history. This short film, which can be found on YouTube, is sure to invoke feelings of nostalgia in every adult who loved the plastic brick toy as a kid.
The animated video describes the life of Danish toymaker Ole Kirk Christiansen, who created the company in 1932, and his son Godtfred, Lego’s second owner, from the perspective of current owner Kjeld, the founder’s grandson.
Kield recounts Lego’s transition from wood to plastic toys, the evolution of the signature interlocking brick and rebuilding after two burned-down factories.
Even the most ardent Lego fans are sure to learn something new about the Danish toy company. For instance, the name Lego comes from the Danish for “play well” is “leg godt.” Coincidentally, Lego means “I put together” in Latin.

Oh my goodness!!! Seriously, your son’s room is like a dream come true to my Lego lnivog son! Even with it all as a mess…he might love it even more seeing it all over the floor since that is how his Legos usually are. LOL! We finally got so overwhelmed with them that I bought a storage system with individual bins so they could be color sorted which makes it slightly easier to find pieces. I really wish I would have kept his sets together but he mixes and matches so much it is almost impossible. I can’t wait to see what you end up doing in there since this is like a little glimpse into my future!
