I can remember some pretty intense battles with my friends as a kid, but we usually had to make do with sticks or toy cap guns (and later, flour bombs and rotten eggs). But these days, your average kid probably has to contend with a whole new range of enemies from the movies, from alien invaders to evil government agents to zombie hordes!
Well, if the baddies have got tougher, so has the response! Now you can get hold of an incredible arsenal of foam-or-water-shootin’ madness with the high-tech NERF range of weapons. We’ve got everything from the rapid-firing N-Strike Maverick to the unbelievable Stampede ECS-50 for the ultimate in fully-automatic battery-powered alien blasting!
Did you know that NERF stands for Non-Expanding Recreational Foam? Or—get this—the foam is made from “a solid, spongy cellular material produced by the reaction of polyester with a diisocyanate while carbon dioxide is liberated by the reaction of a carboxyl with the isocyanate. Polyester resin reacts with a compound while CO2 is simultaneously released by another reaction. It is this gas that creates open pockets within the polyurethane that, in turn, makes the material soft and light.”
OK, I got that straight from Wikipedia but I thought it was just too bizarre not to include in this article. Next time you blast the bad guy with your NERF blaster, you can shout “eat polyester reacting with a diisocyanate, sucker!” and watch them hesitate for that crucial second!
Righto Agent Double-0-Nerf, it’s time for your briefing. Let’s go through just some of the powerful hardware at your disposal shall we?
NERF Stampede ECS-50
Let’s start at the top. the Stampede is the ultimate in blasting; fully automatic (don’t forget 6 D batteries, agent), portable, and utilising a new 18-dart clip. You can fire single shots or approximately three shots a second, and it has an impressive range of about 7.5-9 metres. Two removable accessories—the shield and the tripod—make this a flexible battlefield companion.
NERF N-Strike Vulcan EBF-25
It doesn’t get much bigger and tougher than this! The Vulcan isn’t about stealth, agent—it’s about massive firepower. It’s a belt-driven battery-powered system that can fire off 25 rounds and less than 10 seconds, with a range of about 4.5-6 metres. Accessories include the tripod, an ammobox and the ammobelt, and it’s compatible with other tactical rail system accessories.
NERF N-Strike Raider CS 35 Rapid Fire
The Raider features two firing modes, single fire and slam fire. In slam fire mode, hold down the trigger and pump the front grip to fire, and you can achieve a rate of fire of about 2.5 shots per second. Luckily it comes with a 35 dart magazine! Range is about 7.5-9 metres.
NERD N-Strike Longshot CS-6
The one-metre long blaster can launch foam arrows up to 10.5 meters away, and features two quick-loading clips. What’s more, if you find yourself in a close range situation you can quickly modify the CS-6 into a single-shot blaster. Comes with fold-down bi-pod and targeting scope.
Well Agent Double-0-Nerf, we’ve just touched on a few of the weaponry options available. Take your time and browse through the selection of Super Soakers, Buzz Bee Air Blasters, and of course the foam ball-blasting Nerf Reactor Pump & Launch Blast.
This mission briefing will self-destruct in five seconds.
